According to Jean Marc Picard of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, the median age of drivers is now 52 and it is getting harder to hire younger drivers. The research is looking into health and ways to improve the routines of drivers in hopes of recruiting younger drivers to replace those who will be retiring in the next decade. There is also a lot of new technology that drivers need to be aware of and turnover is high right now due to rising fuel costs and government regulations from both Canada and United States.
Another research is taking place in the United States in shape of a website for truck drivers. Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is building a website to help drivers understand that they need to eat healthy while on the road.
